Horse Diaries
The diaries seen on this page are an important tribute to each of these individual horses, ponies, and donkeys. Each of these animals should have their story respectfully told so that their suffering can be acknowledged, and where possible, the contributing factors responsible for their plight be known. Their stories should not be forgotten, and it is hoped that by reading these diaries, community members will be better able to recognise equine welfare issues, and feel more accountable to advocate for animals who are potentially at risk. It is with this primary aim that the diary of each of these beautiful animals is shared with you.
To those who have sponsored horses ‘in care’ in the past, and to those who are currently doing so - thank you! Horses are costly animals to house, maintain, and treat. Regular financial contributions towards the maintenance and rehabilitation of equines in care at the Quest Shelter are very much appreciated, and make a genuine and practical difference. The level of horse sponsorship taken out by supporters directly influences operational decisions made regarding the number of equines that Quest is therefore enabled to accept into care.
Most importantly, we'd like to thank those who take in these rehabilitated equines and provide them with safe and caring life-time homes. Many people contribute in a multitude of ways to achieving great outcomes for the equines who are surrendered into Quest care, but to be prepared to financially and emotionally support one of these horses for its life-time is a very compassionate gesture. Due to the nature of the animals we accept for care, many of our graduates have on-going health or behavioural issues, and most of them are not horses that would be considered 'desirable' in the open market. Those who open their homes and hearts to these special horses, ponies, and donkeys are to be commended for the huge commitment they make.
Adopting a rehabilitated equine actually serves to assist two horses; the horse who is ready to make the progression into its new home, and also the horse who can subsequently take that horses place at the shelter, and thereby be provided with the same care, and the same opportunity of a happy and healthy future.
We hope that you enjoy ‘getting to know’ some of our special horses, ponies and donkeys through this page.
For details of horses who will be seeking permanent adoptive homes in the future, please visit our Horse Sponsorship page to meet the equines who are currently in care.
Please forgive us the absence of some links to some of the diary pages until all diaries have been updated, a work in progress!
