The Quest Sanctuary
The Quest Sanctuary
|
Quest uses two private properties belonging to committee members to accommodate equines who are progressing through Quest's care and rehabilitation program. Initially, all surrendered horses/ponies/donkeys spend time at Quest's President's small property which serves as Quest's Shelter, and is well set up to facilitate close observation, assessment, and intensive care and handling. At times however, for various reasons, some horses reach the stage where it is deemed beneficial for them to be turned out for a period prior to be offered for re-homing or sent for education. Reasons for this can range from health considerations, through to the mental 'state of mind' of the horse. Quest is very fortunate in having the use of the ideal property for this purpose, which belongs to one of Quest's founders and committee member, Tony Di Grande. We call this property 'The Sanctuary', as it truly has been a sanctuary for so many horses. On occasion, a Quest horse has been granted permanent residence on this property, due to behavioural/safety concerns held regarding the viability of placing him/her in a new home. All equines at the Sanctuary are provided with all necessary health care, veterinary attention and maintenance. Aged horses who pass away while residing at the Sanctuary are provided with a respectful burial in a special place on the property. We would like to share some images with you of this wonderful place and some of the special horses who have enjoyed living there through their journey with Quest. UPDATE: Unfortunately, during the extensive flooding of 2011, Tony's farm was completely submerged for a period of weeks. Tony swam the horses to safety, however his property was completely decimated. Fences lost, irrigation channels blown out, the vast majority of trees and shelter belts died, the hay in two massive hay sheds filled to capacity ruined, all lucerne stands spoiled, etc. The beautiful results of twenty years of dedicated blood, sweat and tears... lost. Since this time we have not utilised the farm as a part of our program as Tony has well and truly enough to contend with. He still has Lilly, Bonny and Miracle there for company though, as a property is not a home without horses. We all wish Tony the very best in his efforts to rebuild his beautiful farm. |
